Pops of Color for The Spring

Spring lip colors

Lipstick to the face is like jewelry to the body.  It’s the easiest way to elevate any look.  When you read “pops of color” maybe you thought I was referring to the current floral print trend.  I’m talking lips people, lots of lip colors.  I’m rounding up my favorite lipsticks/balms to get you through the warmer months while by adding a little glam to your make up routine.

If I’m feeling a bit blah I’ll put on a pretty lip color and I’m ready to conquer the day.   In all seriousness, there’s just something about a bold lip that makes me me powerful and confident.   Lip colors have come such a long way.  Now more than ever there are so many brands and color options that everyone should be able to find colors they love.  Also, I don’t have to be dressed up to sport a bold lip.  I’ll be in joggers and a tank yet I’ll add a pink lip.  Lip color has always been a way for me to express my style.  Think of lipstick as a mood ring.  Let it express how you’re feeling.   Scroll down for my favorite colors of the season.

Bold: This is the lipstick I’m wearing on my photo 💋 I just purchased it from the Sephora sale and I love how it’s not red but a bright and bold intense pink red.  I don’t put a lot on because a little goes a loooong way.  What I do is dab a little on then smooth my lips with my finger to create a more warmed up look. The color is THREE WISE GIRLS

Peach: This is my favorite peachy tone.  I love wearing this guy lounging by the pool.  It’s antioxidant and moisture rich formula is such a great combination during the warmer months. It also has a hint of peppermint oil that adds the perfect amount of tinkle! The color is APRICOT

Pink: Looking for the perfect coral pink? Here you go! This satin lip matte cream lipstick is also a favorite.  I’ve been using these lip creams for 3 + years. They stay put and have such a creamy soft finish. This shade is perfect for the spring and summer.  I will say if you lips are super dry you may want to add a little chapstick beforehand.  You will notice the creases. The color is SAN PAULO

Mauve: love me some mauve lips. This lip balm plumps without the tinkle and adds the perfect amount of color that’s buildable.  I also love the chubby stick. This is one of my favorite on the go lip balms. The color is DOLLY FEVER

Red: I couldn’t leave out my favorite red. This red is my OG. No matter how many reds I’ve tried this one will always be “the one”. It is a true red, no hints of orange or pinks. Plus the formula is fantastic, minimal if any reapplying. The color is BESO

Thanks so much for reading. As always you can find all of these products in one please right here.

Cutout Tops

Skin is in and cutout tops provide the perfect peek at showing some.    From chunky sweaters to smooth silhouettes you are going to notice slashes here and there.  This playful style is such a great way to elevate any look.  Going into the spring I’m wearing thinner shirts opposed to sweaters but I will never rule out a great cutout sweater on a cooler spring night.   If you are unsure about trying the trend there are many options for the modest.  A sliver in the sleeves adds something a little extra to a  plain shirt.  My personal favorite, a little peek of the collarbone.   I mean who doesn’t love a good clavicle?  Pair these shirts with jeans or joggers.  In the summertime they would look super chic with a pair of cutoffs and heels. Top the tanks with a light blazer and be on your way. There’s just something about showing a little pop of skin that makes any look unique.  I have linked my sweater as well of some other options here.

Paper Bag Waisted Pants

This trend has been gaining a lot of popularity in the past few years and I am 100% here for it. I was a bit hesitant in the beginning as I’m on the shorter side with short legs. I’m all torso over here.  I was afraid I’d look a bit frumpy with the cut of the pants. I initially tried paper bag waisted shorts to calm my nerves over the wide legged fit of the pants. If I liked the way the shorts looked I could find a pant that would work as well. The short were a winner so I decided to go big or go home and purchase some pants.  To my delight I also loved them.  Keep in mind paper bag waists can be tricky to style. With the high waist being clenched and not smooth like a traditional high rise you can run into a issue on what tops look best. The clenched waist design gives the illusion of a smaller waist and lets be honest gals, who wouldn’t take that? A fitted top that can be tucked in is a great option. When trying to achieve this type of look I always turn towards body suits. They create a seamless look. This avoids looking frumpy.  Next I like to wear them with cropped tops that allow a little tuck but your skin also peeks out when you raise your arm.  This adds a little playfulness to the look.   I prefer a looser fit trousers for everyday.  Sneakers are always my go-to.  When going out you can easily transition from sneakers to heels and you’re good to go.  I have also branched out and purchased a cream pair for the warmer months. Skinny paper waist pants are another great option.  The combination of the clenched waist and fitted pants are a clear winner.  I have linked a few I have and some that have caught my eye here. Thanks for reading!

The Modern Day House dress

The House Dress – a simple, usually washable, dress suitable for wearing while doing housework.  That’s the definition according to google.  In this post I’m referring to dresses that can easily transition from wearing around the house to running errands.   When you imagine a house dress what do you picture?  I’ll tell you what I see, a woman in the 1950’s with a button down long dress that has short sleeves.  It might even have some sort of floral print.  How do I picture house dresses today?  A stylish, comfy dress that can be worn doing housework, chasing children around the yard to also the occasional run to the grocery store.  Or in other words, a nice change from my typical leggings and oversized sweater. Let’s face it, sometimes you just want to look cute even though you’re staying home.  Ever since I’ve had children I feel like I’m always in a rush.  I think it just comes with the territory.  I like simple outfits that don’t take much thought but the finished product is stylish and a good house dress fits the bill.   We don’t wear shoes in our home so I am always in slippers.  The only time I wear shoes is when I’m snapping a quick outfit pic.  I go through so many slippers it surprises even me.  When home I like to style dresses with a nice pair of comfy, chunky socks.  If I do venture out I pair them with combat boots or sneakers.  If you’ve been reading my posts you already know that I love mixing feminine pieces with sporty sneaks or rugged boots. Think Dr. Martens or converse sneakers meets lace and frills. It breaks up the formality of the look.  Since we are still in the winter season I usually wear long dresses around the house.  Once the spring hits I’ll pair them with a leather or denim jacket.  My mom got me a white denim jacket that I can’t wait to wear.  I know a lot of us are stuck home right now but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on dressing cute.  Throw on a house dress and see where the day takes you!

I’ve linked all my current favorite house dresses here.

5 Healthy Habits i do daily

Let’s be honest, most of us try our best to live a healthy lifestyle.  I try to incorporate these healthy habits into my daily routine which in turn has made them become part of my life. They may seem small but they are mighty.  I notice a difference when I skip a day or two.  Like many other people by the end of the day I’m tired, I mean like really tired .  Raising 4 kids, trying to nurture them into legit decent humans is tough.  Never in my life did I think it would be this tough but it’s also so rewarding.

  1. Drink water with lemon- Sounds simple enough right?  You would be surprised how many people are not consuming the right amount of water daily.  Below is a little trick I learned to calculate how much water you should be drinking.   I also know a lot of people who don’t enjoy drinking water in general.  I find adding lemon, cucumber, mint give water a nice taste.   Infuse your water with some berries, pineapple or melon.  Most importantly…drink you water!  This water bottle is super helpful to those who forget to drink water!

Calculating how much water you should drink a day:

  • Take your weight (in pounds) and divide that by 2.2.
  • Multiply that number depending on your age: If you’re younger than 30, multiply by 40. If you’re between 30-55, multiply by 35. If you’re older than 55, multiply by 30.
  • Divide that sum by 28.3.
  • Your total is how many ounces of water you should drink each day. Divide that number by 8 to see your result in cups.
  1. A healthy skincare routine.  This is so important.  Keeping consistent with a skin care routine can keep your skin glowing and if your skin in glowing you are baby.  I have a day time and night time routine and both take under 5 mins.  I don’t have time for too many steps but I always do a cleanser, serum, eye cream, moisturizer and neck cream.  My day and night products are linked here.  Oh and I never ever forget sunscreen!  The serums I use are pricey but they are the best and worth every penny If you can swing it.

Day:

Cleanser

Toner

Serum

Moisturizer

Eye Cream

Sunscreen

Night:

Cleanser

Toner

Serum

Moistures

EyeCream

Neck Cream

  1. Carve out 30 minutes of “me” time.  This is usually when I have my afternoon cup of coffee or tea.  I like to use this time for exercising but sometimes I just need to relax. I start with a quick few minutes of stretching.  You’ll be surprised at how fantastic a good stretch makes you feel.  Speaking of me time this could mean getting lost in a rabbit hole search of the new Targaryen series or looking for our next vacation.  Having a few minutes solitude helps me collect my thoughts for the rest of the day.  I will either set the kids up with an activity or put on a show.   As moms there should be no shame for turning on the tv or allowing them their tablet for short periods of time.  Mamma needs her time too.
  1. Fresh air.  This is so important.  Even on the coldest of days we are going out for at least a half hour.  Ever feel off or aggravated?  Go for a walk.  I read somewhere that fresh air can reset your mood. See what a world of good it can do.
  1. Unwind with a book and a warm beverage before bed.  I’ve been cutting out television before bed and upping my reading game. I’ve noticed how much better I’ve been sleeping. I try to read for at least 20 mins before bed.  This calms my mind and helps me unwind.  I always enjoy a cup of tea while I read.  The whole process is just relaxing to me and by the end of the day I’m looking forward to it.  This tea has has been a favorite of mine and really helps me unwind.  I also love these mugs

My last bit, give yourself grace.  It’s been a rough year.  Scarlett O’Hara said it best “tomorrow is another day”.  We aren’t perfect and that’s ok.  Making small changes can have big results.  These specific healthy habits may not work for you but I think getting into some sort of routine is great start.  Wishing you a happy and healthy Sunday friends.

Ive added links throughout this post but if you like to see everything in one place you can here.  While you are there you can give a “follow” so I pop up on your feed.  Happy Sunday friends.

6 Pairs of Sneakers I’m loving…

My husband and I weren’t the only thing that multiplied these last few years ; ) but our sneaker collection has as well… .Coincidence?  Probably not.  I need all the comfortable shoes I can get chasing these boys around.  Growing up I never owned more than 2 pairs.  I was all about high heels and boots.  I swear, my high school days were like a fashion show.  Not to date myself but black wedged Steve Madden boots were considered a wardrobe essential.

Shoes will always be my muse.  I normally plan my outfits around which shoes I’m going to wear.  You  know start from the ground up, literally.  I’ve noticed I’ve shifted from heels to sneakers and I’m ok with that.  Being a mom of 4 and navigating life during a pandemic hasn’t really provided many opportunities to go out on the town. A trip to the Target is now considered an outing.  So you bet your bottom dollar that I’m wearing my finest pair of kicks!  I have compiled a list of extremely versatile sneakers that I’m loving right now.

How I style sneakers:

Leggings, sweatshirt or t-shirt.

Joggers

A satin skirt and sweatshirt (this is a favorite)

Denim Skirts

Skinny Jeans

Guys, the possibilities are endless!

A Few Of My favorites…

Elevating Your Style…The sweatshirt…

Sweatshirts are the unsung heroes of fashion.  A good sweatshirt can transform any look.  I especially love pairing them with leggings, skinny jeans and satin skirts.  Balancing out a baggy top with a more fitted bottom is the look I try to achieve.  I must say though I do enjoy a good matching sweatsuit, I am an 80’s baby after all.  Sweatshirts make fashion more functional, and let’s be honest who doesn’t want to look put together and feel comfortable at the same time?  Ready to look comfortably chic? Pick up a few sweatshirts as they will take you through all the seasons.

How to style:

Oversized: Best paired with leggings or skinny jeans.  This breaks up the fit.  I like to wear sneakers, boots or mules with this look.

Cropped: I style with high waisted pants or joggers.

Hoodie: So many possibilities…but I prefer an oversized mens hoodie with leggings/skinny jeans.  I like to add a tailored jacket or blazer and sneakers or combat boots.

Tailored: These are more fitted and shorter.  I like to wear these with straight leg or bellbottom jeans.

All my outfit details are here, along with a few of my other favorite sweatshirts:
