NYE…the at home edition…

NYE..the staying home edtion

Well it’s here…NYE.  I was never one to go out on New Year’s Eve.  Don’t get me wrong I did the whole night life scene for a few years but I quickly learned my golden rule…never go out on NYE.  The only exceptions in my book are events such as weddings/engagement parties or private parties at a restaurant.  We had our engagement party on NYE and it was so much fun.  I enjoy a dinner party over a crowded restaurant any day of the week.  So I guess I’m sort of a professional at staying home for NYE. If you are usually one to go out and get wild but can’t do to the C word don’t worry, I’m here to provide you with some tips and tricks to make your NYE at home a special one.

Tip One:  Always dress to impress

Comfort chic is my style motto these days.  Since we won’t be having company this year I am opting to wear satin pajama pants, a comfy chic knit and sparkly jewels to add a little pop to the look.  This is also a fun way to celebrate when having a dinner party with friends.  On the invitation simply put “attire: pajama chic”. Not into pajamas? No problem.  I also love faux leather at the moment.  So either a mini skirt and a chunky knit or faux leather joggers with a one shoulder top.  Oh and let’s not forget about a NYE old faithful…sequins!

Tip Two:  Decor

Most of the time I keep my Christmas decorations up but this year I put them up SO early that i’ve taken everything down except for the tree.  I love a good naked tree with lights.  It makes the room look so cozy.  This year I plan on grabbing a few balloons from the local party shop.  A great way to add festive decor and to also support a local business.  Plus my kids love balloons so it’s win win.

Tip Three:  Menu

I always love a good theme.  This year we are going Greek.  From the hors d’oeuvres to the main course and finishing with some not so traditional Greek ice-cream sundae’s.  I’m ordering part of the meal from a local business and then we are cooking the rest ourselves.  I am very fortunate to have a wonderful Greek mother-in-law who cooks amazing.  NYE is always a bit of a causal dinner occasion here.  I don’t set the table we kind of just gather in the kitchen and dining room where the record player will be playing some of my grandfather’s favorite records. As far as drinks for the evening I’ll go with a bubbly.

Tip Four: Have Fun!

Honestly since we had kids we are in bed before the ball drops.  We like to make this fun for our kids but also fun for the adults.  Netflix usually has a count down for the kids so we do that a few times for them…however, they are getting older so I think this year Maximus may make us stay up until next year.

Happy New Year friends!!
